Katy, Texas (Aug. 29, 2023)
Police are looking for a pickup truck driver after they reportedly struck and killed a bicyclist in Katy Monday night. The cyclist has been identified as 66-year-old Juan Gutierrez.
The incident occurred near the 900 block of South Mason Road at approximately 11:22 p.m.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials are seeking information on a Ford pickup truck that they believe struck Gutierrez. The truck failed to pass safely, striking the cyclist. The impact caused Gutierrez to be ejected from his bike, launching him into a nearby grass patch.
Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
Police are currently checking nearby security footage for information that will lead to finding the responsible driver. The driver did not stop to render aid following the accident, instead fleeing.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
