Houston, Texas (Jan. 15, 2023) – As an early-year arctic blast rolls into the greater Houston area, more and more reports of car accidents are rolling in, leading to major issues around the region.

I-10 in Waller County

An 18-wheeler has toppled on I-10 in Waller County, leading to a hazmat spill and several road closures as crews work to address the issue. Icy conditions from the Arctic storm are believed to have played a role, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Beltway and 290 W

There are multiple reports of accidents on both the Sam Houston Tollway near the US-290 exit ramp and on US-290 NW. The weather is believed to have played a factor in these crashes, but reports have not confirmed the full extent of each situation.

Icy & Slick Conditions

Multiple local roadways are reporting unsafe driving conditions. Some such roadways include but are not limited to:

  • SH 99 Southbound Overpass from I-10
  • SH 99 near Mason
  • SH 99 at 249
  • I-10 at Fry Road Exit
  • I-10 at Greenhouse Exit
  • FM 1960 and Hardy Toll Road
  • Various overpasses along the Sam Houston Tollway and Westpark Tollway

It’s recommended to stay current on the local weather reports and stay tuned for any announcements from city officials regarding highway closures or delays. Officials have asked Houstonians to stay off the roadways if possible.

Winter Storm Accident Lawyers

As many Texans experienced in 2021, partly due to the devastating effects of that year’s arctic storm, these types of weather effects can have an extreme effect on roadways and public infrastructure.

It’s recommended to stay off the highways and roadways if you can. Even for experienced drivers, ice can prove to be a difficult obstacle to overcome. It’s hard to see and will often lead to devastating consequences.
