Sugar Land, Texas (Feb 7, 2024) – A burglary suspect struck and killed a Sugar Land Public Works employee while fleeing from police.
According to police, local officers were in pursuit of a suspect in a chase that started in Missouri City. The suspect fled police in a black SUV, driving towards Sugar Land from Highway 90A.
The suspect ran a red light near Gillingham Lane while fleeing police. The Sugar Land Public Works employee was struck by the SUV while attempting to cross the road. The Sugar Land employee was killed in the accident. The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Joseph Aponte Sr.
Three people were in the fleeing SUV at the time of the crash. Two of the individuals in the SUV had to be extracted.
Reports have indicated that officials plan to pursue murder charges in connection with the crash.
