Houston, Texas (Sept. 7, 2023)
Two carjackers are facing possible murder charges following a deadly accident that claimed the life of at least one person and injured multiple.
The deadly crash occurred on MLK Boulevard and Van Fleet Street at approximately 10:20 a.m.
Police were attempting to chase the vehicle when it fled the scene following the carjacking. Officers initially lost sight of the vehicle and disengaged, with the vehicle continuing at a high rate of speed.
The stolen vehicle ultimately crashed into multiple vehicles that had stopped at a red light. One woman was killed in the initial crash. Four people were taken to local hospitals, including the two carjackers.
The vehicle was stolen previously, near Hobby Airport. Cathleen Hill, driving the vehicle at the time of the robbery, said the two thieves were armed with firearms.
The woman killed in the crash was the mother of a Houston Police Department sergeant.
